The Akita Inaka School is far more than just a typical language school! Nestled in the mountains near the historic mining town of Kosaka, it offers a unique blend of language learning and deep cultural immersion in the Tohoku region.
After hands-on Japanese lessons in the morning, you’ll enjoy nearly daily activities and excursions that let you experience the land, people, and traditions up close. The school is set in a charming former elementary school, creating a warm and authentic learning atmosphere.
The focus is on real-world communication – no outdated textbooks here. You’ll learn natural, practical Japanese in small groups with personalized support. It’s ideal for anyone who wants an intensive, personal language experience away from the crowds of the big cities.
Experience the awakening of nature after the long winter. In spring, Akita transforms into a sea of blossoms – the perfect time to enjoy Japan’s iconic cherry blossom season. Celebrate Hanami with locals and take part in one of Japan’s most beautiful and culturally rich times of the year.
Summer in Akita bursts with energy, drums, and lights! Experience some of Japan’s most famous summer festivals and don’t just watch – take part! Feel the heartbeat of traditional culture as you immerse yourself in the vibrant festivities.

Local supermarkets offer fresh, high-quality food at affordable prices, and there’s even a weekly market with regional produce. Lunch (bento box) can be ordered through the school for about 700 JPY, with a variety of delicious options. Generous portions at nearby ramen shops cost roughly the same.
