Arrive as a guest at our small farm in eastern Hokkaido – and leave with a sense of belonging. Surrounded by forests and open landscapes, our hobby farm is a place to slow down, share everyday life, and enjoy simple, seasonal food – a place where your stay follows the rhythm of the seasons, and you decide how closely you want to be part of it.
Surrounded by diverse landscapes and forests, our farm is part of a living, ever-changing ecosystem. Birds visit the garden throughout the day, squirrels forage nearby, and foxes and deer regularly pass through the surrounding fields. With a bit of luck, even red-crowned cranes may pause by our small pond – quiet visitors that remind us we share this land with wildlife and give space to its natural rhythms.
On our small farm, we aim for sustainability to be a part of everyday life. Growing much of our own food, combining traditional knowledge with modern technology, and placing strong emphasis on renewable energy and biodiversity. This is our home, which we share with our guests – valuing genuine exchange, whether over shared meals, in everyday moments together, or in quiet time outdoors, entirely at your own pace.
East Hokkaido is home to a remarkable diversity of ecosystems, from wetlands and lakes to forests and volcanic landscapes. These habitats support rich wildlife, including deer, foxes, migratory birds, and the iconic red-crowned cranes. Life here follows natural rhythms that change visibly with the seasons.
Our approach to farming is guided by permaculture principles, focusing on diversity, resilience, and long-term balance. Instead of monocultures, we create interconnected systems where plants, soil, and wildlife support each other. The goal is to work with natural processes rather than control them.
Animals will become part of the farm later in the season, once shelters are completed. Goats and ducks are planned as integrated elements of the farm system, providing food while contributing to soil health and biodiversity. Their arrival will mark the next step in the farm’s growth.
We are building our farm slowly, following the rhythm of nature and the seasons. Our goal is to reduce our environmental impact wherever possible and to grow much of our food ourselves as part of a self-sufficient, low-impact lifestyle.
In 2026, once the snow has melted, we will begin constructing animal shelters and establishing a permaculture-based food forest. Later in summer, goats will join us for dairy, ducks for eggs, and the first vegetable harvests will start to supply our kitchen – all while supporting biodiversity and healthy soil.
By combining traditional knowledge with modern tools, we work with nature rather than against it, and welcome guests who are curious to experience a place that is growing and evolving.
We are building our farm slowly, following the rhythm of the seasons. Once the snow has melted, we will begin constructing animal shelters and establishing a food forest in 2026, based on permaculture and hugelkultur principles. Goats and ducks will join us over the course of the summer, providing milk and eggs while helping to improve soil health and biodiversity.

The farm is still taking shape. Our animals will join us once shelters are built and the land is ready - following the seasons, not a fixed timeline.

We’re establishing a permaculture-based food forest designed to grow over many years - supporting biodiversity, healthy soil, and a diverse harvest.

The land rests under snow, quiet and open. Building begins when nature allows it - and what grows here will emerge slowly, shaped by seasons, patience, and care.

Sayaka and Tammo met in Japan — he as a language student during a working holiday year, and she as a staff member at the language school. They quickly discovered that they shared the same values, a curiosity about the world, and a lot of laughter together.
After Tammo returned to Germany, they stayed in touch while he began studying energy engineering. Short messages soon turned into long daily conversations, until it became clear that a reunion was inevitable. After another stay in Japan, the Japanese kokuhaku followed — and not long after, their engagement.
